Abilify and Hallucinations - from FDA reports Summary: Hallucinations is found among people who take Abilify, especially for people who are female, 40-49 old , have been taking the drug for < 1 month, also take medication Seroquel, and have Schizophrenia.
Along with its needed effects, aripiprazole (the active ingredient contained in Abilify) may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

dizziness, or orthostatic hypotension (a drop in blood pressure when standing up from sitting or lying down). These side effects may lead to falls which could cause bone fractures or other injuries. This risk is higher for people with conditions or other medications that could worsen these effects.
Eeyore is complaining about hallucinations. This is new. Could Abilify be causing it? They started when we tried to wean him off Abilify (he was put on it for anger).
Day 2 after being diagnosed with psychotic episode. Still having florid visual, auditory and tactile hallucinations which are scary as hell. Alternate between feeling OK for few hours after taking Abilify to terrified rest of time. Bad ****.
Hallucinations: There is the possibility that you could actually hallucinate while coming off of Abilify. Research has shown that some individuals develop psychotic symptoms while coming off of antipsychotics – even if they have no prior history of schizophrenia.
If I remember correctly Abilify at low doses can act as a bit of a stimulant and that can cause hallucinations.
Function. As with other atypical antipsychotics, the exact method of action for aripiprazole is not known. The design of the drug was based on the dopamine hypothesis. The dopamine hypothesis predicts that dopamine hyperactivity in the mesolimbic pathways of the brain (also known as reward pathways) causes delusions,...
Aripiprazole acts as a D 2 receptor antagonist in a hyperdopaminergic environment and as an agonist in a hypodopaminergic environment. In the index case, the presence of haloperidol, which is a potent D 2 antagonist, led to a hypodopaminergic state. In the hypodopaminergic milieu, aripiprazole acted as an agonist and led to worsening of symptoms.
